The history of Crown Mill has its roots in the modernist momentum of the Renaissance. It all began in 1478 when Emperor Maximilian allowed the monks of the Monastery of La Hulpe, Belgium, to build a mill on the banks of a tiny river beautifully named Argentina. Two centuries later, on the orders of King Charles II, this water mill became the Royal Manufacture of stationery.
In 1870, Frédéric Pelletier, the founder, took the stage: he opened a stationery and envelope factory in Brussels, demanding from the Royal Manufacture an airy paper that was an authentic replica of the original handmade paper. "Original Crown Mill" was born.
Frédéric Pelletier will not stop in such a good way: he will be one of the first to create silk-lined envelopes, packaged in luxurious boxes embellished by a refined graphics of which the 19th century had the secret. His successors will have the privilege of supplying the Royal Family of Belgium and the most illustrious families in Europe.
