The art of working in Damascus steel dates back thousands of years. It consists of engraving a model on the surface of steel or iron objects to decorate them. This technique, imported to Spain by the Arabs, was later perfected for centuries, especially in the famous Spanish city Toledo.

In 1931 Pelikan adopted it for its Toledo model with such success that manufacturing remained virtually unchanged for years. Today the decorative body consists of a piece of Sterling Silver, treated with the utmost care during the various stages of its transformation, until the motif is covered with a layer of gold. Each Toledo pen is a unique piece. The engravings of the motif are indeed made by hand, giving life to each pen Pelikan. Due to the large amount of work required, a maximum of 200 pieces are made per month. The cap, the front and the rear are made of high-quality black resin.
