Izumo Takeami Yokoajiro #10 Torafu Fountain pen - 14ct Gold nib - Platinum
The Platinum Izumo Takeami Fountain Pen adopts the traditional weaving techniques used in Japanese bamboo crafts. Bamboo, which has been closely involved in the lives of Japanese people since the Jomon period, was used for various tools and decorations. Gradually the weaving techniques became an increasingly valued craft, and were eventually accepted as a traditional craft. The main feature of this fountain pen is the barrel, which is weaved carefully by skilled traditional craftsmen.
The main feature of the Platinum Izumo Takeami is the barrel, with its beautiful decoration that is created through a finely woven bamboo. Numerous processes are necessary to make the bamboo strips. After selecting the right bamboo, a boiling process called aburanuki is used to make the material durable. After this follow the three steps arawari, habatori and senhiki. Finally, 36 bamboo strips of an even width (approximately 2mm in width and 0.2mm in thickness) are used to weave the barrel. The Gozame Benikabairo is then dyed and coated with sabiurushi.
