The King of Pens (KOP) is introduced as the top of the range, developed as the symbol of Sailor’s technology, quality and writing perfection gained with the experience of over 100 years. Special attention has been given to the oversized 21K solid gold nib (the life and soul of the fountain pen), which provides top writing quality.
The urushi lacquer comes from the sap of the urushi tree. It is a rare resource which use to make lacquer objects requires experienced lacquer artists and craftsmen. Japanese lacquers are said to be the best in the world; both qualitatively and aesthetically...
Urushi lacquer is the most resistant varnish in the world! Natural, urushi lacquer is even stronger than the best synthetic varnishes. Yet there is an absolute rule: no UV from direct sunlight on your lacquer fountain pen; discoloration would follow on the side exposed to direct light.
All the nibs of the King of Pens are made of 21 carat gold, which gives them a very smooth feel on paper. The 21 carat gold, but also the polishing of the tip of the nib in iridium which protects the gold, make this large nib an exceptional piece in the world of gold nibs. In this size of large gold nibs for large pens, the fine size and sizes below do not exist: the length of the nib would make a FINE (or even extra-fine) nib too fragile.
In general, Japanese nib sizes are always narrower than European standards.
Here is a comparison that will help you choose the size of the nib
