As one of Pilot's flagship fountain pens, the CUSTOM 823 showcases a sophisticated design paired with a high-capacity vacuum filling system and a silky-smooth 14k gold nib. To fill, simply unscrew the plunger knob at the barrel's end, pull back the plunger, dip the nib in bottled ink (ensuring it touches the lip of the grip section), and push the plunger down to create a vacuum that draws in ink, filling about 3/4 of the chamber—providing much more ink capacity than a standard cartridge or converter.

This pen is designed exclusively for use with bottled fountain pen ink and does not support cartridges or converters. To prevent leakage from the generous ink supply, the pen includes a safety valve that seals the reservoir when the plunger knob is fully tightened. To write, tilt the nib up and unscrew the plunger knob slightly to leave a 2 mm gap between the knob and barrel. This opens the safety valve, allowing ink flow to the nib—be careful not to unscrew it fully, as this would release the plunger and force ink out.
