The glimpse of ink and internal components through the transparent marble-colored barrel is pure and lustrous beauty. Normal barrels and caps are shaped and polished by grinding the surface, yet it is difficult to polish the inner surface without cutting mark.
The Sailor Pen made it possible by carefully grinding the inner surface, using a special blade of Lathe Machine. The result is the smooth finish. It is tailored to be attractive both inside and out.

This model – The Professional Gear has a selection of 21K gold nibs (the same as on the 1911 Large) and a unique design with a cut-away cap and inlaid Sailor anchor logo on the top.
All the nibs of the Professional Gear are made of 21 carat gold, which gives them a very smooth feel on paper. The 21 carat gold, but also the polishing of the tip of the nib in iridium which protects the gold, make this nib an exceptional piece in the world of gold nibs.

In 1911 Mr. Sakata and his brother founded the “Sakata-Manufactory” to produce solid gold nibs.
In 1917 the factory relocated to the next town Hamadacho and the Company changed the name to “Sailor Pen Sakata-Manufactory Co., Ltd.” The Company started manufacturing fountain pens here in volumes.
The Company reached a turning point on 27th May 1926 when Imperial Prince Hirohito (Prince Regent, later Emperor Showa) visited the factory to encourage the industry. This was a great honour for a small company with 300 employees established only 15 years previously.
Taking this opportunity, The SAILOR Pen Company aquired significant credibility and notoriety nationwide.
