Sailor King of Pens Iro-Miyabi combines the traditional Japanese Iro (color) with the elegant and beautiful Miyabi (grace) with colored lacquer.

The lacquering was developed in the Nara and Heian era as a symbol of wealth among the aristocracy and as a symbol of gods and Buddha.

Kaga-nuri

"Kaga-nuri" (also called "Yamanaka-nuri") is a traditional craft which originated in Kaga city, Ishikawa. In the Edo era, Kaga-nuri was used for tableware or furniture on which beautiful Urushi and Maki-e designs were applied.

Lacquering technique "Ishime-nuri"

This traditional technique enables the surface of the lacquer to be roughened to represent the appearance of stones. It takes months for the lacquer to dry. It is then repeatedly coated with other different kind of lacquer to create a masterpiece made with much care.

All the nibs of the King of Pens are made of 21 carat gold, which gives them a very smooth feel on paper. The 21 carat gold, but also the polishing of the tip of the nib in iridium which protects the gold, make this large nib an exceptional piece in the world of gold nibs. In this size of large gold nibs for large pens, the fine size and sizes below do not exist: the length of the nib would make a FINE (or even extra-fine) nib too fragile.

In general, Japanese nib sizes are always narrower than European standards.
