THE PROJECT

The San Miniato project was made in collaboration with the Simbolo Vivo studio run by architect Andrea Parigi. We are proud to present the first product of a series inspired by Florentine architectural symbols.

THE FIVE SYMBOLS OF THE ABBEY

The San Miniato collection is a compendium of five abbey symbols: the square that shapes a part of the facade represents the four elements, the circle surrounded by the twelve zodiac signs at the center of the central nave’s floor and the octagram located over the main entrance that represents the moment of transition in which the square that aspires to become a circle starts rotating and changing shape.
The recurring use of the golden ratio which can be found around the abbey also exists in the relationship between the cap and the pen’s body. The clip, molded into a glass stem, extends from the wine glass shape at the centre of the octagram, (a symbol of intelligence and intuition).

MATERIALS

In order to stay true to the architectural beauty of the abbey, the San Miniato pen is made in two variants: the green Prato marble one and the white Carrara one. Sophisticated numerical controlled machines process all the silver 925 pen parts which are then polished by hand.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

The pen’s body and cap are sculpted out of a solid marble block. Once it has been shaped by CNC machines, it passes through the gifted hands of our talented artisans that finish off the piece without breaking the stone. The pen is polished by hand with the same techniques used to polish crystal.

CLIP AND PACKAGING

The shape of a wine glass appears at the centre of the octagram. The effect is enhanced by the clip’s glass stem shape made with a lost wax micro fusion technique.
The scenographic box, decorated with elegant engravings of the San Miniato abbey and the Visconti logo on metal plates, slides open to reveal a pen holder made of olive wood. Delicate engravings of the abbey and its symbols adorn the wood’s surface.

Visconti

Visconti’s history began in Florence, Italy. A cradle of art and culture, Florence also known for being home to one of the Country’s largest industrial districts for luxury and fashion.

The company is the brainchild of Luigi Poli and Dante del Vecchio, two friends who met in Florence and decided to turn a common passion into business by founding Visconti on October 20, 1988.

On that date, luxury writing instruments began to make their way in a city that was strongly linked to jewellery, leather goods and any other form of art. Over time, Visconti products became iconic pieces that helped to spread Italian values worldwide: design and creativity, craftsmanship and innovation, quality and luxury.
