The surprising popularity of Filofax might suggest that it is a recent concept. And yet, its origins date back to the aftermath of the 1st World War.
In 1921, a company was created in London for the purpose of marketing by mail order, in Great Britain, a system for organizing personal data.
In 1930, the Filofax brand was registered, an acronym describing this original system, namely “file of facts”.
Filofax continues to prosper, with 1,250 outlets in Great Britain in 1987. His items are sold worldwide by prestigious stores, including Harrods and Harvey Nichols in London, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales in the United States, Bon Génie in Switzerland, Galeries Lafayette in Paris and Seibu in Japan.
From a simple notebook and loose-sheet binder, the Filofax organizer has evolved into an indispensable organizational tool and an essential icon of the 80s.
